“A woman-of-color who writes poetry or paints or dances or makes movies knows there is no escape from race or gender when she is writing or painting. She can’t take off her color and sex and leave them at the door or her study or studio. Nor can she leave behind her history. Art is about identity, among other things, and her creativity is political.”

OPPORTUNITY: ANIMATE GHANA WORKSHOP
The AnimateGhana Team consists of a group of young, highly determined Ghanaians with a keen interest in art and its capacity to influence, educate and motivate. AnimateGhana seeks to harness this power of art by using illustrations and animations to bring to bear Ghana’s rich culture and highlight current social issues and trends.
“Animations of A Vibrant People” is an 8-day workshop providing skills in animation and illustration to twelve (12) talented participants competitively selected from a number of applicants. The workshop will serve as a platform to train and improve their already existing skills and knowledge about cartoon and animation. The cartoons produced will target both children and adults serving as a teaching and learning aid and as a means of addressing some of the issues in the Ghanaian society and that of Africa as a whole.
